What are some major tax-saving strategies for small businesses?

Hi everyone, I have a general tax planning question as the owner of a small LLC.

I recently learned about electing as S-Corp for tax purposes, and it ended up saving me a large amount of taxes. So now I'm wondering if there are other major tax-saving strategies like this one that I'm not aware of.

I understand that tax planning is complicated and will definitely consult a CPA on this, but I want to tap into the wisdom of the Reddit community as well. Any idea is appreciated!

Which small business banks after Chase screwed everyone during COVID

Obviously Chase didn’t come through for the PPP and we went through a small local bank. We are not a huge business but are pretty reliant on good online banking. The local small bank is a joke, especially with online banking.

Which banks are people using besides the big 4?

We are looking for more than a community bank.

Looks like payment processors are a cartel – almost all of them are fixing their prices at 2.9% + 10-30c per transaction

I have been comparing the various online payment processors for small business and saas applications.

I have been comparing their rates and it looks like a cartel.

Most of them are now pricing at 2.9% + 10-30c per transaction.

I remember a few years back, there were processors that were between 2.5 and 2.75% as well.

But now it looks like they all have reached parity.

Question regarding advertising and driving business to our new website.

Greetings everyone!

I run a small family owned/run business that has been working on launching our new website with all of our inventory on it available for purchase. Now that we feel its ready to be used what would be the best and most cost effective way to advertise and drive traffic to the new website.

Rules say no business promotion posts so I don't want to include the website or name/etc.

Open to any advice you guys have, thank you in advance!

Currently we do have a facebook with ~500 followers and an instagram with about 100 and we are not running and paid advertisements in local papers or anything due to the cost.

Buying an existing business

Hello everyone,

I’ve been following this for a while and figure this is as good of a place to ask as any.

So bit of background, I’ve worked numerous different jobs, mainly in kitchens, trades and insurance. While I enjoyed kitchens the most, the pay is terrible. I’ve always wanted to own my own business though.

Fast forward to now and I’ve been wanting to get out of the city to a small town. I’ve found one which is ideal for what I want and there’s a pizza restaurant for sale.

I’ve been contemplating it for quite some time and think it would be a great venture for me.

So my question is, anyone have experiences buying existing businesses? What about in small towns? Any advise for first time business owners?

Thanks!

Canada/shopify: Just got my biggest order, but worried about fraud – how can I protect myself? Pics included

I just got my biggest order ever. At first I was really excited, but then I got a little nervous.

I have verified that the customer does follow me on social media and is a real person; however, she paid with PayPal and I’ve heard stories of customers saying they never received an item so they can get their money back. How can I protect myself from this?

I’m in Canada, shipping to a US address. She paid for untracked shipping but I’m definitely going to upgrade that out of pocket. What other steps can I take?

Marketing a Freelance Design Business and Sourcing Clients – Is Paid Advertising a Good Strategy?

I've been a freelance graphic designer for over 5 years. I'm looking for a new way to find clients in a more automated way than just applying for gigs here and there.

My current social media presence is terrible – but my website portfolio is very strong. So I'm specifically looking for methods of leading people directly to my website, and not through a social media platform first. For this reason I am considering paid ad campaigns on Google or Reddit or other platforms.

The reception has been great to the website, and I think that the website itself is at least good enough to convert your average graphic design client. The structure of the portfolio is split into different skills and industries, so my plan for paid ads would be to target a specific niche like Packaging Design, and have the ad route directly to that part of my portfolio. So someone interested in packaging will just see my work in that area, with a contact form at the bottom of the page if they are interested in that service.

My biggest question now is whether it will be a total waste of money to do paid advertising campaigns for a graphic design business. If it is a viable strategy, what are my best options for ad platforms? Google adwords, Reddit, etc.?

Otherwise, are there other automated ways of sourcing clients that I am missing? The other option I am considering is having sales people on my team that constantly generate leads and cold email them.

Google Business pending for almost two months | Google Support is non-existent at this point

As stated in the title, my google business has been pending for almost two months now since first registering the business and verifying the pin that was sent to my address.

Under my google business profile, it states, "Your business is verified. Listings may be reviewed for quality and can take up to 3 days to be published."

My original plan was to reach out to past clients and have them leave me a review on both Google and Facebook, but now I'm not able to do that since Google clearly isn't actively reviewing new businesses.

My first thought was to reach out to their support team, which I've now done twice, and each time I've received an automated message saying, "Thanks for getting in touch. I'm routing your query to a specialist on another team who is best equipped to address your question. You should hear from either them or myself soon." Again, I have not heard back from them in over a month now. The only option for their support line is through email.

Is there anything else I can do to get this resolved? I've seen many others complaining about the same issue on the Google forums but the solution appears to just keep waiting. This is nothing short of disappointing coming from a company like Google.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
